Biirdie: LA Is Mars

I am back and more alive than ever. My brain cells are gone, my ideals are dead, and I am back from the short sabbatical that I took from writing on this virtual territory. Hope your holiday break was decent, whether it was short or long. Okay. Let's see...

On this month, in this specific year, I have become a year older; unfortunately, this means nothing to me, other than I no longer am a "teenager"; whatever the hell that means.

On previous posts of our blog I kept myself from using any curse words, but I've decided that these curse words add something to this bloody thing, so, I will not deprive myself from doing what is natural. Ha! If you are offended, I cannot apologize for as Dr. Seuss said: "Be who you are and say what you want, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." Hahahaha.

I now want to tell you about a new band that I just listened to a few hours ago. This band comes from Glendale, California. A city very close to my hometown, and actually, the city that contains the Galleria where I always buy my clothes, and where I bought for my birthday a very cube-ish Hello Kitty clock.

The band is: Biirdie. The lineup consists of: Jared Flamm (vocalist), Tom Wolfe (not the writer/journalist), Kala Savage, Richard Gowen, James Williams, Oscar, Joe McKenzie, and DJ Fish. Long lineup, I've no idea what any of these people do for the band, other than that they make up the band, according to Nic Harcourt from KCRW'S MORNING BECOMES ECLECTIC.

Biirdie is spelled with two "i's" because there is another artist with "Birdie" in its name, or so I was told by Nic Harcourt.

The band has two websites, you can check them out at Biirdie or at Biirdie's Myspace.

If I were to compare them with any other bands, I would say that they are a fusion of Death Cab for Cutie, The Shins and a hint of The Postal Service. They themselves specify the genres in which they fall into as: Healing & EasyListening / Electroacoustic / Western Swing.

Biirdie has just come out with their newest LP "Catherine Avenue," which was released January 22nd. Their single right now is "LA Is Mars."

I found a 2005 performance video of Biirdie--too outdated-- so, instead I will be using a link from Spin Magazine of a new song from Biirdie: " LA Is Mars. "
